ในการทำประมง มีความจำเป็น และสำคัญที่เรา (หรือชาวประมง) ต้องทำความเข้าใจและรู้ถึงพฤติกรรมของปลา ซึ่งมีพฤติกรรมตอบสนองต่อสิ่งเร้าแตกต่างกันออกไป ในที่นี้ก็คือ เครื่องมือประมง (Fishing gear) หนี่งในพฤติกรรมของปลาที่เรามองเห็นเด่นชัดกว่าอย่างอื่นในเบื้องต้นนี้ก็คือ การว่ายน้ำของปลา (Swimming performance of fish) ที่เราได้ทราบข้างต้นแล้ว ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วยความเร็ว (Swimming speed) และความทนทาน (Endurance) จึงเป็นสิ่งสำคัญที่จะต้องทำความเข้าใจ เพื่อให้ประสบความสำเร็จในการจับสัตว์น้ำเป้าหมาย หรือเลือกที่จะปล่อยสัตว์น้ำที่ไม่ใช่เป้าหมาย นอกจากนี้ การประยุกต์ใช้เทคโนโลยีในการช่วยจับสัตว์น้ำ ก็มีความสำคัญไม่น้อยเช่นกัน ส่วนการทำประมงอวนล้อม จะเป็นการประลองกันระหว่างความเร็วในการว่ายน้ำของปลาเป้าหมายกับความเร็วของเรือ และอัตราการจมตัวของอวนล้อม โดยมีซั้ง (Fish Aggregating Devices-FADs)...
