The fire on ship is one of the most dangerous incidents which can happen onboard. If the fire is detected in good time, the crew can prevent serious damages by taking immediate measures. Fire onboard, the ship must fight by the crew in the first instance, and very often there may be no outside assistance. It leaves the seafarer with little option when at sea, to deal with the situation or risk abandoning the ship.Nobody wants to be in a situation where they must fight fires, but should the situation arise it is important that you are well prepared. An understanding of the chemistry of fire, is key to the prevention of fires onboard. Recognizing a fire risk and correcting the situation before there is a fire shows that “prevention is better than cure”
