One-Day Technical Meeting on Marine Debris

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized “The Technical Ad Hoc Meeting on Marine Debris in Thailand” on 29 January 2020 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were 15 participants (11 Males and 4 Females) from Japan, Thailand, SEAFDEC Secretariat, and SEAFDEC/TD participated in this Meeting. The aims of this Meeting are establishing collaboration between Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) and Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Program, understanding project detail, SEAFDEC’s role, and implementation plan of “Formation of a Center of Excellence for Marine Plastic Pollution Studies in the Southeast Asian Seas” and establishing and strengthening the marine debris researcher networks.

The Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) is a Japanese government program that promotes international joint research. The program is structured as collaboration between the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), which provides competitive research funds for science and technology projects, and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), which provides competitive research funds for medical research and development, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which provides development assistance (ODA).
