Regional Training Course on Strengthening Capacity of Implementation for MCS in Southeast Asia

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the “Regional Training Course on Strengthening Capacity of Implementation for Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) in Southeast Asia” from 16 to 19 September 2024, at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. The Training aimed to enhance the knowledge of fisheries intelligence/innovation technology/application with notification on surveillance and MCS integration, risk assessment tools for key IUU fishing areas, and risk analysis from VMS/AIS information. Forty-four participants from AMSs, SEAFDEC/TD, and resource persons from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Global Fishing Watch, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Thailand attended the Training. In the end, the participants were expected to update information on innovation technology with notification on MCS activities and increase knowledge, understanding, skills, and experience in risk assessment and analysis to combat IUU fishing. This Training is an activity under the project “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Enhancing National Capacities to Eliminate IUU Fishing in Southeast Asia”.
