Study visit of SEAFDEC researchers to the Institute of Marine Research in Norway for training in the use of ROVs and the collection of ALDFG.
Achievements/Outputs
- Training report on the use of ROVs for mapping and retrieval of ALDFG in Norway.
- Enhanced technical expertise of TD researchers in operating ROVs and adopting improved methodologies for the effective collection of ALDFG, focusing on the retrieval of bottom-based ALDFG.
Activity 2:
IMR researchers visit SEAFDEC/TD to share methodologies used for ALDFG retrieval in Norway, identifying organizations working within this field, and plan the experimental methodology.
- Organization of Webinar on Addressing Abandoned, Lost, and Discarded Fishing Gear and Marine Debris in Southeast Asia on 11 Nov. 2024
- Inspection of M.V. Plalung on 12 Nov. 2024 for conducting demonstration
Achievements/Outputs
- A report on methodologies for bottom-based ALDFG retrieval technology in Norway.
- A set of recommendations identifying relevant organizations involved in ALDFG management and potential partnerships for future collaborative project.
- An experimental plan for a 2025 ALDFG retrieval demonstration that incorporates Norwegian best practices and adaptations suitable for local conditions.
- Strengthen institutional connections between SEAFDEC/TD and IMR to facilitate future research collaborations and joint initiatives.
