Training and Field Practice on Socioeconomic Monitoring (SOCMON) for Coastal and Small-scale Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia

18-28 March 2024:
- Training and Field Practice on Socioeconomic Monitoring (SocMon) for Coastal and Small-scale Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia. This activity composes of training and field exercise to collect data through community engagement by using SocMon methodology. Twelve (12) researchers of SEAFDEC/TD gained knowledge and experiences, and could further apply SocMon guidelines in their fieldwork.

List of Activity
5-7 November 2024:
- The Workshop on Introduction of SocMon for Coastal and Small-scale Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia, organized in Cambodia.
- The workshop aims to introduce the SocMon guidelines and enhance knowledge of fisheries officers responsible for socioeconomic data collection.
- Participants of the workshop include: two (2) SEAFDEC/TD staff members serving as resource persons; fifteen (15) fishery officers from the Fisheries Administration of Cambodia.

Activity 1.2
Training on Fisheries Resilience and Workshop on Development of Fisheries Management Plan in Small-scale Fisheries

18-25 June 2024:
The Training Workshop on Fisheries Resilience to Fisheries Management in Small-scale Fisheries and A Field Trip to conduct an impact assessment study, were conducted back-to-back in Krabi Province Thailand, attended by ten researchers from SEAFDEC/TD and two fisheries officers from DOF, Thailand, the participants gained knowledge and have better understanding on the fisheries resilience concept and climate change impact and assess the vulnerability and adaptive capacity of fishing community through filed exercise data collection in order to develop resilience-building plans.

List of Activity
11-13 and 16-17 September 2024:
Workshop on Development of Fisheries Management Plan/Program/Proposal and Using the Result on Fisheries Resilience, involved by the SEAFDEC researcher to review the result of impact assessment from previous activities and develop a fisheries resilience plan. The workshop provide knowledge on the process of writing proposal for funding, the SEAFDEC staff could apply this knowledge in their activities and program for SEAFDEC work.

Activity 2.1
Training course on monitoring the phenomenon of climate change and the impact on fish stock life history parameters in waters in Southeast Asia
List of Activity
10–13 June 2024:
- The training course on monitoring the phenomenon of climate change and the impact on fish stock life history parameters in waters in Southeast Asia. This activity was conducted for 4 days to build capacity of SEAFDEC researchers. It aimed to improve the knowledge of the concept and implementation of the key indicators to assess the vulnerability of fish to climate change.
- There was a total of fourteen (14) trainees improved knowledge of the selection and utilization of the bio-statistics suitable for fishery data based on the international implementation standard from FAO.
Activity 2.2
Core expert meeting on improving the draft work plan and way forward on project implementation
List of Activity
14 June 2024:
- The core expert meeting was conducted a day to gather the advisory and discussions on the development of the 5-years activities on the effect of climate change on fisheries resources in the Southeast Asian region. The scope of the discussions included the synthesis and finalization of the activities, the parameters involved, the scope of each of the activities, and the way forward in the cooperation between SEAFDEC and other organizations.
- There was a total of sixteen (16) participants discussing and brainstorming to support SEAFDEC in developing the 5-years activities with the output of 5-years was set as improving knowledge of Southeast Asian researchers on vulnerability assessment of fisheries resources in response to climate change.
- Strength cooperation among researchers through sharing knowledge and discussion during the meeting.
